So the result seem to be that I need an RME Digiface or equivalent with more then one ADAT in/out to be able to sync my Kurzweil as RME seem to be "joining" the incoming ADAT sync signal with its own or at least can handle to sync an incoming ADAT clock internally and be able to send that sync via Wordclock and at the same time have spare ADAT connections on the Computer connected RME. Not even when trying to sync via Wordclock where Yamaha would be master and Multiface as slave. I also tried to set the Yamaha to sync from Wordclock sent from Multiface.īut connecting my Kurzweil to ADAT in on my Yamaha and set the Yamaha to sync from that ADAT card and send ADAT out from the Yamaha to Multiface and set Multiface to sync from ADAT did NOT work at all. Then I connected ADAT out from Multiface to ADAT in on my Yamaha 02r and set the Yamaha to sync to ADAT. I have been testing different setups where I connected my Kurzweil ADAT signal to my RME Multiface and set the Multiface to sync through ADAT. It seems like I don't get any notifications from posts. There is always clock so following this thing written there is always interference if you use a BNC too that doesn't matter because you can not switch the word clock off on a ADAT/SPDIF/AES-EBU/TDIF. So then ADAT is a hell of shit and also, AES-EBU because here the same story. there is always a clock on ADAT because it is send in blocks.

how can i get rid of the word clock on a ADAT signal? Which means you might like the sound better if the clock is interfered with! ehh. Some think the pairing of a given external clock with a given converter makes for a better sound, but that is their subjective assessment and is akin to liking the harmonic distortion of tube gear etc. He also argues (and many including myself agree) that a converter's best fidelity will be achieved on internal sync, so you should only send or receive clock when needing two converters to operate simultaneously. In Bob Katz's book he reports that signal can interfere with clock signal traveling on the same connection, and therefore word clock cable is superior for carrying sync. The ADAT and SP/DIF specs permit a lot more slop than a good word clock has. I'm not saying by the way that ADAT or SP/DIF is as effective as a good word clock. Clock recovery at the receiver means figuring out the interval and locking a local word clock to it. A fixed length frame is transferred at regular intervals, and that interval has nothing at all to do with the audio payload. The framing on ADAT data and SP/DIF data is fixed, and has nothing whatever to do with the audio content. OTO, I have been using ADAT In from an RME Multiface II to a Focusrite OctoPre LE sending only clock (and ADAT out from OctoPre back to RME for Audio), and though I have not A/B'd it with a wordclock connection, it seems clean enough.Īnyone have more technical info on this, or even subjective listening evaluations?Whatever you're hearing, it isn't being caused by 'signal dependent' anything. I have detected signal dependant jitter using spdif, so I can subjectively state that sending signal over the same line as clock can interfere with clock stability. What about ADAT sync without audio signal?
